Germany's Health Minister, Jens Spahn, advocates for Germany's participation in nuclear programs, which includes providing financial support for Britain and France's nuclear arsenals.
In a series of statements, Jens Spahn, the chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, has called for financial support for France and Britain's nuclear weapon arsenals, and advocated for a stronger European deterrent.
During a recent visit to Kyiv, Spahn expressed the need for equipment to maintain an army of 800,000 men, with the Ukrainians emphasising that their best security guarantee is their own army. However, he made it clear that for Germany to secure peace in Ukraine, Putin must first be ready to make peace.
Spahn also stated that an 'equal partnership' with France and Britain, like the one with the USA, is not to be expected. He believes that Europe needs the capability for deterrence, and suggested this could be achieved through partnership with France or Britain. If an arrangement with these nations were made, Spahn believes Germany would need to jointly modernize and expand their nuclear arsenals.
The chairman expressed gratitude for the current protective shield provided by the USA in Europe, but was evasive about German peacekeeping troops for Ukraine. He did not express a readiness for Germany to militarily secure peace in Ukraine.
In June 2025, Spahn publicly called for a discussion about a possible German or European participation in France and Britain's nuclear arsenals, and their joint modernization and expansion. No information is available about any unofficial talks with the governments in France or Britain on this matter.

Spahn's comments about Putin's intentions for continued war in Ukraine were a stark reminder of the ongoing conflict. He believes that we are far from peace in the Ukraine conflict, as Putin still wants war.
It is clear that Spahn is advocating for a strong European stance in the face of international challenges, and is calling for a debate on nuclear partnerships to secure peace and deter aggression.
