Germany’s digital health records cut errors but face key hurdles ahead

Germany’s electronic patient record (ePA) is showing clear benefits in healthcare, from tracking medication adherence to preventing duplicate tests. Yet experts agree its full potential remains untapped due to ongoing stability issues. Industry leaders are now pushing for improvements and new applications to make the system more effective and user-friendly.

The ePA already helps doctors monitor critical treatments. For example, physicians can check whether a heart attack patient is taking prescribed prednisone correctly. This reduces risks and improves recovery outcomes.

The ePA is already improving patient care by streamlining medication checks and reducing redundant procedures. However, its success depends on solving stability problems and expanding its functions. With better design and targeted applications, the system could soon play a much larger role in Germany’s healthcare system.
