Germany’s Amerikalinie railway line set for major electrification and speed upgrades
German Railways has unveiled plans to expand the Amerikalinie railway line between Langwedel and Uelzen. The project includes electrification, speed increases to 100 km/h, and upgrades to handle around 70 daily trains. Local authorities in Soltau and Munster are now pushing for stronger noise protection measures as part of the development.
The Amerikalinie currently operates as a single, non-electrified track. Under the expansion, it will gain passing loops, crossing stations, and electrification to boost capacity and efficiency. German Railways outlined these changes to roughly 120 attendees, including local council members, at Hotel Park Soltau.
The Amerikalinie expansion moves forward with plans for electrification, higher speeds, and increased train frequency. Local efforts now focus on securing enhanced noise protection, though final decisions depend on cost assessments and regional justifications. The project’s next steps will determine how much quieter the upgraded line will be for nearby communities.
