German media leadership loses ground on gender equality for second year

Women remain underrepresented in German media leadership, according to a new study. The report by ProQuote Medien shows a decline in female senior editors for the second year running. Many companies still have no women on their boards at all.

The study found that fewer than one in five board members across German media are women. Most companies have less than a third of top roles filled by female leaders. Public broadcasters perform better, with eight of 13 stations reaching or exceeding 50 percent representation.

ProQuote Medien is calling for equal representation, urging that half of all senior media roles go to women. The latest figures highlight persistent gaps, particularly in private and regional outlets. The decline in female senior editors marks a setback after years of gradual progress.
