"German Language Tutoring Program"

In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Dinslaken recently hosted a two-week intensive language training program aimed at sustainably strengthening the linguistic abilities of primary school-aged children.

Organised by the city itself, the project was designed to support children in successfully acquiring the German language. The "Ferien-Intensiv-Training" (FIT) for newly arrived students took place from August 4 to 15, 2025, at Gemeinschaftsgrundschule Gartenschule in Dinslaken.

The goal of the course was to equip children with a solid foundation in the German language, focusing on the application of communicative language means in authentic everyday situations, as well as the practice of reading and writing.

The project was funded from state funds of the Ministry of School and Education NRW, and the training of the two experienced language learning companions who managed the practical implementation was overseen by the state office for school integration. These language learning companions were qualified and pedagogically trained to ensure a high standard of instruction.

The training included varied exercises, creative games, and everyday language situations to promote linguistic expression and help children overcome speaking inhibitions. Particular attention was paid to a motivating learning atmosphere where each child received individual support tailored to their needs.

The response from the children was overwhelmingly positive, with many experiencing great joy in learning and showing visible progress in language use. Many left the course with new self-confidence. The feedback from teaching staff was also consistently positive.

The city of Dinslaken places great emphasis on early language promotion and equal opportunities in education. This initiative is part of their ongoing commitment to ensuring all children have the best possible start in life.

The success of the 2025 program has led to plans for the "FIT in German" courses to be offered again during the autumn holidays. The city looks forward to continuing to provide this valuable opportunity for children to improve their German language skills.
