German fans unite 211 nations to fund local football clubs ahead of 2026 World Cup

Two football fans from Zirndorf have launched a unique fundraising campaign ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Andreas Bechtloff and Andreas Wilhelm plan to meet supporters from as many of FIFA's 211 member nations as possible while cheering on Germany in North America. Their initiative, called francoNJa, aims to raise €10,000 for local clubs facing rising costs.

The campaign centres on a digital 'Friendbook', where Bechtloff and Wilhelm will document meetings with international fans. Each new connection could increase donations, as corporate sponsors have pledged fixed amounts per country represented. Private individuals can also contribute directly through the crowdfunding platform GoodCrowd.

All funds collected will support four Zirndorf football clubs. The money will cover expenses like youth team equipment, training gear, and facility maintenance. Organisers stress that every donation will go straight to the clubs, with no deductions. The duo will travel to the World Cup to back the German team while growing their network. Their progress can be followed on the campaign's website, www.franconja.de, and Instagram account, @franconja26.

The francoNJa project links fan engagement with local club funding. If successful, it will ease financial pressure on Zirndorf's teams and improve resources for young players. The campaign runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
