German Embassy Offers Crucial Guidance for Turkish Travelers
In Turkey, German tourists can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing they have access to emergency healthcare services, thanks to the YUPASS system. This system provides free emergency treatment for tourists who find themselves in need of immediate medical attention.
To utilise the YUPASS system, tourists must first submit their claim certificate to an SGK branch office in Turkey. After submitting the certificate, they will receive a personal YUPASS number, which is essential for accessing healthcare services. It's advisable to apply for the claim certificate from your health insurance company before departure.
With the YUPASS number and your ID card, you can seek treatment in state health institutions or private clinics with an SGK contract in Turkey. However, it's important to note that only treatments that are medically necessary within 24 hours are covered by the YUPASS system. All other treatments, which are not considered emergencies, must be paid for by the tourist.
It's also recommended by the German Embassy to take out private travel health insurance in addition to the YUPASS system. This is because any additional costs exceeding the agreed rates in private clinics are borne by the tourist. In private clinics with an SGK contract, costs may exceed the agreed rates by a maximum of 200 percent.
For tourists in Antalya and Bodrum, the DVKA has listed the most important SGK addresses in its brochure. A list of SGK branch offices can also be found on the official SGK website, www.sgk.gov.tr.
As for the Turkish Minister of Health, based on current available public knowledge, the Minister is Fahrettin Koca.
Remember, your health is your wealth, and being informed about your healthcare options while travelling is crucial. Enjoy your trip to Turkey, knowing you have access to necessary healthcare services if needed.
