Gasthaus Butz undergoes new ownership in Wörth a.d. Danube

In a recent development, Matthias Kulzer, a local entrepreneur, has taken over the operation of Gasthaus Butz in Wörth an der Donau as of September 1, 2025. The transfer of ownership was originally planned for January 1, 2023, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and energy crisis.

The district and the city of Wörth a.d. Donau had founded an operating GmbH together to ensure the continued operation of Butz. The goal of this collaboration was to preserve Butz as a traditional inn, including a butcher shop and guesthouse, and to secure approximately 30 jobs.

The Butz operating area went to the district in 2019 because the required property was only available as part of the ensemble. The acquisition of the Butz property was made by the district to secure expansion areas for its hospital. However, no new information about the ownership of the expansion areas secured for the Regensburg District Hospital upon the acquisition of the site in 2019 has been disclosed.

It is also noteworthy that no public funds have flowed into this investment by the district and the city of Wörth. District Administrator Tanja Schweiger expresses gratitude to the Wörther city and district councils, specifically Mr. Hospital Director Rederer and Mr. Mayor Schütz, for their support in maintaining the operation of Butz.

Mayor Josef Schütz sees the new owner as a chance to preserve the tradition of Gasthaus Butz and set new impulses for the future. Matthias Kulzer, the new owner, plans to strengthen the cultural and music events at the establishment.

No information about the repayment of seed capital, ancillary costs, rent, or job security has been released. The city of Wörth not only politically supported the goal but also actively participated in the GmbH. No new information about the delay in the transfer of ownership, the GmbH's goal to preserve Butz as a traditional inn, or the acquisition of the Butz property in 2019 by the district to secure expansion areas for its hospital has been disclosed.
