Galilee Medical Center joins forces with EIOH in a new collaboration.
The Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH) and Galilee Medical Center's Galilee College of Dental Sciences have recently established a significant collaboration, marking the first faculty exchange initiative between the two institutions.
During the signing ceremony at Galilee Medical Center, key figures from both institutions were present. These included CEO Masad Barhoum, EIOH Professor and Director Dr. Eli Eliav, Professor Kark Skorecki, Dean of the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine Bar Ilan University, Professor Samer Srouji, Head of the Galilee College of Dental Medicine at the medical center, and Professor Oded Nahlieli, head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department's Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit.
The collaboration aims to determine the molecular mechanism associated with exercise-induced hypoalgesia. Dr. Hala Karayanni-Matanis, a faculty member from the University of Rochester, is participating in a fellowship at EIOH this summer to work on this project. She finished her residency in Oral Medicine at the Galilee College of Dental Sciences earlier this year.
Dr. Karayanni-Matanis is working closely with the educational, clinical, and research components of the Orofacial Pain Division and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at EIOH. She is joined by Dr. Maryam Altuhafy, Orofacial Pain assistant professor, and Dr. Qian Wang, a staff scientist, in a protein isolation process.
EIOH has been expanding its partnerships and collaborations with universities around the world. Alongside its sister Institutions, it now has formal partnerships with institutions in Paris, Rome, London, Sweden, as well as universities in Italy, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Israel, India, Argentina, Poland, and China.
Dr. Eli Eliav, DMD, PhD, director and professor at EIOH, expressed delight about this formal collaboration. He looks forward to future activities that will benefit faculty and residents at both institutions. Dr. Karayanni-Matanis plans to incorporate her learning as a faculty member into her work when she returns home.
The three-month fellowship at EIOH provides an opportunity for Dr. Karayanni-Matanis to immerse herself in the latest research and advancements in the field. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the Rochester area with her family.
Representatives from the College of Dentistry and the University of Rochester, as well as Raya Strauss-Ben Dror, president of the medical center's Friends Association, Michael Illouz, the association's chair, and members of the medical center's board, were also present at the signing ceremony.
This collaboration between EIOH and Galilee Medical Center's Galilee College of Dental Sciences is set to bring about exciting advancements in the understanding of exercise-induced hypoalgesia and the field of oral health as a whole.
