Future Vision 2025: ZF reveals trailers designed for improved performance and safety

ZF Showcases Innovative Trailer Technologies at Nufam 2025

At the Nufam 2025 in Karlsruhe, ZF, a leading automotive technology company, is presenting its latest offerings for the trailer industry. The focus is on decarbonization, safety, and digital applications to make trailer manufacturing and fleet operations more efficient and sustainable.

ZF's Commercial Vehicle Solutions Division is showcasing its products and services at Hall 1, Stand 125. One of the main attractions is the intelligent electronic braking system (iEBS), a combination of anti-lock and electronic brake technologies that forms part of the global "Intelligent Braking Platform". The iEBS system offers benefits such as fast installation, simplified maintenance, and leaner inventory, making workshops and fleet operations more efficient.

In addition, ZF is presenting the iEBS system in various versions, suitable for different types of trailers. The system is available in Basic, Standard, and Premium versions for both conventional and air-suspended systems.

Another innovative offering from ZF is TrailTrax, an electrification program for trailers. This program combines a 210-kilowatt AxTrax 2 E-axle, the trailer's electronic brake system, and a battery box with control to form a complete system. TrailTrax supports electric drive and uses regenerative braking, potentially reducing CO2 emissions by up to 16% with a combustion engine-powered tractor unit and up to 40% with a plug-in variant.

ZF also presents the Software Update Management System (SUMS) for trailers at NUFAM 2025. This solution supports compliance with the international UNECE Regulation R156, which requires trailer manufacturers to implement a system ensuring functional safety and cybersecurity throughout the vehicle lifecycle. The SUMS Service Suite aims to support manufacturers in implementing software update management system requirements.

Moreover, ZF organizes discussion rounds with manufacturers and fleet operators during the Nufam 2025, focusing on current topics in the trailer sector. These discussions provide a platform for industry professionals to exchange ideas and insights, fostering innovation and collaboration in the trailer industry.

Leading trailer manufacturers such as Kässbohrer and Krone have already presented TrailTrax technology, demonstrating the growing interest in electrification and digital solutions for trailers. With its innovative offerings at the Nufam 2025, ZF is further cementing its position as a pioneer in the trailer technology sector.
