Future Beauty Gathering 2025: Sustainability at the Forefront
The beauty industry is stepping up its sustainability efforts, as evidenced by the recent Good Beauty Summit 2025. Hosted by the Cosmetics Industry Association (VKE) at L'Oréal Germany's headquarters in Düsseldorf, the event brought together leading experts and representatives from retail, industry, and consulting to discuss sustainability, regulation, and social responsibility.
Tanja Leyer, Sustainability Director of L'Oréal Germany, highlighted the importance of refill products as a central pillar for L'Oréal to drive sustainable consumption in the beauty industry. By combining resource conservation with innovation, L'Oréal aims to lead the way in creating a more sustainable beauty industry.
Sarah Schlegl, Head of ESG / Sustainability at Douglas, emphasized that as a beauty retailer, Douglas has a special responsibility towards customers, employees, and the environment. The company has strategically embraced sustainability, with a focus on choosing materials consciously, driving digitalization, and creating experiences that allow for multiple uses.
Anke Heppner, Head of POS Marketing at Douglas, added that sustainability in beauty retail is becoming a standard. At the point of sale, this means constantly checking how to combine impact with responsibility. The Good Beauty Summit provided a platform for exchange, inspiration, and measurable progress in the beauty industry.
The Good Beauty Summit was originally launched as the Green Beauty Summit in 2022 and has since evolved to signal sustainability as an integral part of the future of the cosmetics and perfume industry. The Cosmetics Association, founded in 1952 in Frankfurt am Main, offers various platforms and formats for exchange between and with stakeholders under the motto "Connect Beauty To Grow".
Over 60 member companies representing more than 250 brands, some of which are globally renowned, and generating an annual turnover of over 2.1 billion euros, are part of the Cosmetics Association. Andreas Fuhlisch, Managing Director of the Cosmetics Industry Association, stated that responsible action in all ESG dimensions is crucial for long-term growth.
Thomas Rieder, Managing Director of Clarins Germany, stated that 'Good Beauty' is part of Clarins' DNA and they have a B Corp certification to underscore their commitment to taking responsibility in all areas of their business.
The Cosmetics Industry Association will focus on refill as the central theme during the Good Beauty Week 2026. The slogan for the Good Beauty Summit is "Good for you. Good for the planet. Good for business." The event was streamed live on YouTube, inviting around 50 industry representatives to participate.
While the Sustainability Director at L'Oréal Germany is not explicitly named in the available search results, Ezgi Barcenas is noted as Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer at L’Oréal and actively involved in sustainability initiatives. However, her specific title and event roles in Germany are not detailed in the results.
The Good Beauty Summit aims to set a new standard for sustainability in the beauty industry, combining innovation, responsibility, and profitability to create a more sustainable future for all.
