Fuso and Foxconn launch Japan's newest electric bus manufacturer by 2026

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) and Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) are teaming up to create a new bus manufacturer in Japan. The company will focus on zero-emission buses and is set to launch in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approvals. Production will take place at an existing plant in Toyama, with plans to employ around 1,000 workers once operations begin.

The joint venture, named Joint Venture Mobility Tech, will combine FUSO's expertise in bus design and manufacturing with Foxconn's zero-emission vehicle technology and global supply chain. The new company will be headquartered in Kawasaki, Japan, and will sell its buses under the FUSO brand.

Katsuto Kora, currently Director and Head of FUSO Bus at MFTBC, has been appointed as the chief executive of the new business. The partnership aims to speed up the development and launch of electric buses for both domestic and international markets. Definitive agreements have already been signed, with the finalisation of the deal expected in the second half of 2026. Once operational, the Toyama plant will become a key hub for producing electric buses, reinforcing Japan's push toward sustainable transport solutions.

The new company will create up to 1,000 jobs at its Toyama facility by 2026. Its focus on electric buses aligns with global efforts to reduce emissions in public transport. The venture is expected to strengthen FUSO's position in the zero-emission vehicle market once fully established.
