Fruit fly infestation detected above ice dispenser at a bar in Chester County: Restaurant inspections report for August 31, 2025
In a recent round of inspections by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, several restaurants and food establishments were evaluated for cleanliness and safety compliance. Here's a roundup of the establishments that passed and failed their inspections.
Passed Inspections
- Canteen Avenue C at J&J passed their inspection on August 22 with no violations.
- Elegance Cafe at 82 E. Lancaster Ave. Paoli passed their follow-up inspection on August 18 with no violations.
- Arora Estates LLC DBA Exxon passed their inspection on August 22 with no violations.
- Hawk Home Farm Stand at 466 Kemp Rd. Pottstown passed their follow-up inspection on August 19 with no violations.
- Landenberg Living LP at 100 Landenberg Rd. Landenberg passed their follow-up inspection on August 19 with no violations.
- J's Water Ice at 250 S. Third St. Oxford passed their follow-up inspection on August 18 with no violations.
- Starbucks @ F.G.H. Library/WCU at 25 W. Rosedale Ave. West Chester passed their opening inspection on August 19 with no violations.
- Amazing Acres Goat Dairy @ Berwyn Farmers Market passed their inspection on August 18 with no violations.
- Oxford Fuels at 203 S. Third St. Oxford passed their inspection on August 18, but was instructed to remove old/unused cabinets, counters and shelves from the sales area, and remove 2 door ice merchandiser located outside near the dumpster.
- Creekside Coffee Roasting Co. at 314 Chrome Rd. Oxford passed their inspection on August 18 with no violations.
- Keepin' It Simple Catering, Snack Shack, State Line BBQ, and The Nutrition Group @ Renaissance Academy all passed their August 22 inspections with no violations.
- Villa Maria House of Studies at 1 Our Lady Circle, Malvern passed their August 18 inspection with no violations, but was instructed to ensure that the quaternary ammonium sanitizer in the sanitizer buckets for sanitizing tables/food contact surfaces were observed at 200-400ppm as required, and to discard three jugs of milk past date marking to prevent potential pathogen growth.
- Alt Kitchen, Canele Bakery Llc, Chuckie B's Meatballs, Crabby Joe's, and Rosie's Kettlecorn all passed their August 23 inspections at Malvern Farmers Market with no violations.
- September Farm Cheese at 5287 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook passed their follow-up inspection on August 19 with no violations.
Failed Inspections
- The Classic Diner at 352 Lancaster Ave. Malvern failed their August 19 inspection due to raw salmon stored above ready-to-eat foods in the pull-out drawers of the rear prep top cooler, in-use egg wash along the cook line in an ice bath at 51 degrees F as opposed to 41 degrees F or below to prevent potential pathogen growth, multiple temperature-controlled for safety foods in the right-hand prep top cooler at 45 degrees F as opposed to 41 degrees F or below, two open employee beverage containers on the top rack of the dish drying rack in the ware-washing area, food stored in an opened can in the undercounter cooler, a buildup of dried food debris on the deli slicer in the back of the kitchen, and a cooler that has been repeatedly out of temperature in previous inspections.
- Mizuna Catering at 510 E. Barnard St. West Chester failed their August 19 inspection due to several containers of foods observed stored directly on the floor, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required, and an exterior garage door was open, risking vector entry and contamination of food & equipment.
- El Rinconsito Restaurante at 345 Scarlet Rd. Suite 15, Kennett Square failed their August 19 inspection due to salsa and cooked meats in the sandwich prep unit not date marked with date made, and the interior of the ice machine, the wall and sink pipes under the 3 bay sink, the shelf next to the prep sink, and the following areas: Wall and sink pipes under the 3 bay sink; Shelf next to the prep sink, all needing cleaning and sanitizing.
- Vecchia failed their August 22 inspection due to a slicer stored on the floor in the kitchen, cardboard lining one storage shelf under spices in the kitchen, rust/peeling paint on shelves in the Coca-Cola reach-in cooler in the kitchen, a used fly strip observed sitting on the kitchen paper towel holder at the handwash sink, and labeling issues with bulk dry goods.
- Engle Education Center at 257 State Rd. West Grove failed their follow-up inspection on August 18 due to a repair needed for the tile base cove that is broken in several areas inside the old warewashing room.
- Warwick Child Care - Food at 145 W. Urner St. Pottstown passed their August 19 inspection, but had food like debris build up on the interior bottom shelf of the Superior reach-in cooler, a food handler in the kitchen prepping food not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, a hand wash sink unclean, Drain cover missing/damaged, clean hand wash sink and replace drain cover, a ware washing sink does not have basins large enough to accommodate the largest piece of equipment needed for manual warewashing, the facility was given 1 year to install a commercial grade 3 compartment sink as of 10/11/2024, the facility must submit plans for instillation by 10/11/2025, and the floor under reach in coolers in the kitchen unclean.
- Warwick Child Care - Food at 16 E. Cedarville Rd. Pottstown passed their August 18 inspection, but was instructed to repeat violation: Warewashing sink does not have basins large enough to accommodate the largest piece of equipment( sheet pans/pots), needing manual washing. The facility had a year from last inspection on 01/07/2025 to install, and the facility has until 01/07/2026 to submit plans for the instillation to CCHD for approval. A food handler observed cooking not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats was also noted, food like debris on the interior top of the microwave, clean in between uses, mold-like debris observed in the hand wash sink drain causing water to be slow draining, clean sink drain to ensure proper water flow/draining, and the floor in between the United cooler and cabinet where brooms are stored was unclean, clean.
- Sweet Aloha Downingtown at 200 River Station Blvd. Suite 3, Downingtown failed their August 19 inspection due to house made peanut butter oats containing almond milk, a potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food requiring datemarking, being held for longer than 7 days.
- Moca Asian Cuisine at 190 Lancaster Ave. Malvern failed their August 19 inspection due to gloves being reused at the sushi prep area, food stored directly on the floor of the freezer, two containers of food stored uncovered in the walk-in fridge, raw salmon thawing above ready-to-eat vegetables in the walk-in fridge, tempura flakes and flour for frying shrimp next to the deep fryers at room temperature, fried chicken cooling at room temperature covered with plastic wrap in a large plastic bin, garlic oil, a time/temperature controlled for safety food at 52 degrees F as opposed to 41 degrees F or below, a buildup of dried food debris on the ice chute in the ice machine, paper towel holder in back of the kitchen in a location that could result in potential contamination of food contact surfaces stored below it from dripping hands, and a cooler that has been repeatedly out of temperature in previous inspections.
