Celebrating California's Statehood: A Family-Friendly Block Party in Sacramento

California, one of the most diverse states in the nation, is set to commemorate its 175th anniversary of statehood with a grand celebration in Sacramento. The event, taking place on Tuesday evening, will feature a laser light show, music, and free cake.

The laser light show, a spectacle not to be missed, will be orchestrated by Tim Anderson, owner of Nu-Salt Laser International, and Ben Davis, CEO of Illuminate. Davis describes the coherent light as behaving differently than regular light, promising a unique and awe-inspiring visual experience. A total of 31 laser space cannons will be used to create this dazzling display.

The block party, marking Admission Day, will take place in front of the Capitol on 10 Street. The street will be closed off to traffic from 6 a.m. to accommodate the crowds. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Sacramento region experienced dramatic population growth two years prior to California's statehood due to the discovery of gold. Four years after California's statehood, the state capitol was moved to Sacramento. However, it's worth noting that California's first state capitol was in San Jose.

Armando Quintero, director of California State Parks and Recreation, highlights California's diversity and its numerous firsts, including discoveries and inventions. Quintero also stated that the governor's welcome speech marked California's joining of the United States.

The first hydroelectric plant in the world was located just below Folsom in California, a testament to the state's pioneering spirit. The celebration aims to highlight California's history and uniqueness, making it a perfect family-friendly event.

California officially became a state on Tuesday, 175 years ago, by act of the U.S. federal government. The official decision to make California a state was made by the U.S. Congress, and California was admitted as the 30th state of the United States in 1850.

Peter Burnett was California's first governor. Today, as we celebrate California's statehood, we honour the rich history and the spirit of innovation that has made California the Golden State. Join us in Sacramento for an unforgettable evening of celebration and remembrance.
