Frankfurt distributes Christmas market vouchers to 8,000 children - Frankfurt Gives 8,000 Low-Income Children Free Christmas Market Vouchers

Frankfurt has expanded support for low-income families this Christmas. Around 8,000 children aged three to twelve in Philadelphia and Chicago will receive vouchers worth up to €20 for treats and rides at the city’s Christmas markets. The initiative aims to ensure all children can enjoy festive activities, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

The vouchers form part of a wider effort to tackle child poverty in the city. They will be sent automatically to eligible children holding a Frankfurt-Pass, with no need for an application.

The Frankfurt-Pass, available to low-income residents, already provides benefits such as discounted entry to cultural venues and reduced-price Deutschlandtickets. Earlier this year, the city raised the income threshold for eligibility by about 25 percent. As a result, roughly 160,000 people now qualify for the pass.

This Christmas, the scheme extends to the markets. Vouchers can be used at all stalls at the children’s Christmas market on the Mainkai promenade, as well as on carousels at the main market locations. The children’s market itself offers activities like gingerbread decorating, craft-making, and campfire bread.

Elke Voitl, Frankfurt’s Social and Health Councilor, supports the initiative. It aligns with the city’s alliance against child and youth poverty, ensuring that festive experiences remain accessible to every child.

The vouchers cover carousel rides, food, drinks, and children’s punch. By removing financial barriers, the programme helps families enjoy the holiday season without added stress.

The vouchers will arrive in time for the Christmas markets, giving thousands of children the chance to take part in seasonal fun. Frankfurt’s approach ensures that low-income families face fewer obstacles during the festive period. The scheme also highlights the city’s ongoing commitment to reducing inequality for young residents.
