Fox News' 'The Five' Tops Cable News in September

Fox News' 'The Five' has emerged as the top show on cable news in September, averaging a substantial 3.9 million viewers. This comes despite overall declines in viewership for major news networks in the 25-54 demo during the third quarter.

Fox News has shown resilience in the face of declining viewership trends. In September, the network's primetime viewership grew by 1% year-over-year, averaging 2.54 million viewers. This is in stark contrast to CNN and MSNBC, which both saw significant audience declines. CNN posted a 36% decrease, while MSNBC experienced a 43% drop in primetime viewers compared to 2024.

Looking at the 25-54 demo, Fox News maintained its lead with 280,000 viewers in September, despite a 14% decrease from the previous year. CNN and MSNBC also saw declines in this demographic, with CNN posting a 27% decrease and MSNBC a 31% drop in the third quarter compared to 2024.

Despite general viewer erosion across major news networks in the third quarter, Fox News' 'The Five' stood out as the highest-rated show in September. While Fox News saw some declines in the 25-54 demo, it managed to maintain its lead and even showed primetime viewership growth in September.
