Found: Body of 9-year-old girl in river leads to charges against Pennsylvania woman

In a tragic turn of events, the body of 9-year-old Renesmay Eutsey was discovered in Pennsylvania's Youghiogheny River on Thursday morning near Smithton. Renesmay was last seen in Dunbar Borough.

Renesmay, described as 4 feet tall, weighing 45 pounds, with long blonde hair and blue eyes, had been missing since the beginning of September. A missing person alert was issued by state police on Sept. 3.

The discovery of Renesmay's body came after other children in the home revealed crucial details to investigators. One child overheard plans to take Renesmay "to a river far far away," while another disclosed witnessing physical abuse.

Kourtney Eutsey, Renesmay's adoptive mother, was charged with criminal homicide in Pennsylvania. Eutsey did not call emergency services due to fear of getting in trouble because of Renesmay's burn injuries and appearance.

Eutsey placed Renesmay's body in a black bag and then a tote and drove it to an area near Perryopolis. She later left the body along the riverbank, where it was found.

The Pennsylvania State Police unit involved in the search for Renesmay was the Pennsylvania State Police. The Fayette County District Attorney's Office acknowledged the efforts of numerous agencies and law enforcement personnel involved in the extensive search over the two-day period.

Eutsey faces eight charges in total, including endangering the welfare of children, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and two counts of aggravated assault. One count of aggravated assault is for attempting to cause injury with extreme indifference, and the other is because the victim was under 13 years old.

Authorities noted that Renesmay might be at special risk of harm or injury. The body found in the Youghiogheny River was partially decomposed, adding to the concerns of those involved in the search.

Our thoughts are with Renesmay's family and friends during this difficult time. This is a developing story and more information will be released as it becomes available.
