Former first lady, Kim Keon Hee, faces charges for indictment
In a series of events that have captured the attention of South Korea, the special counsel is currently investigating former First Lady Kim Keon Hee on a range of allegations.
The investigation, which has a 150-day mandate expiring on Nov. 29, encompasses thirteen major allegations. Among them, Kim is accused of receiving gifts worth significant value from a high-ranking Unification Church official.
The gifts, which include a diamond necklace valued at 60 million won and two Chanel handbags, were reportedly intended to support projects related to the Unification Church's youth and cultural initiatives. The high-ranking official in question is Cho Kwang-han.
However, the allegations do not stop there. Kim is also accused of using her influence to help a former People Power Party representative secure a nomination. Additionally, she faces charges of participating in a stock price manipulation scheme involving Deutsch Motors from 2009 to 2012.
The special counsel has summoned Kim for five separate questioning sessions, during which she reportedly exercised her right to remain silent for most of the meetings.
One of the most striking allegations involves the 2022 presidential election. Kim is accused of receiving polling data for Yoon 58 times during the election at no cost.
Despite the accusations, Kim has stated that she will stand trial and cooperate with the special counsel's investigation. As the investigation continues, the public awaits the outcome with keen interest.
