Formed in Amberg: Self-support group focusing on combatting domestic violence against women, labeled as "Violence against Women"

Women who have faced or are currently enduring violence find it challenging or impossible to discuss their experiences openly. A forthcoming self-support group seeks to break this silence, scheduled to commence in August.

A new self-help group for women who have experienced violence is set to begin in August in the town of Amberg. This group, open to women regardless of when their experiences occurred, aims to provide immediate help and support for those who are currently experiencing or have experienced violence.

The initiative comes from Sandra Schinke, a woman who has personally experienced violence for many years. She will lead the group, which will meet monthly. For more information about the self-help group and the meeting point, please contact Kerstin Bauer at 09621/101399 or [email protected].

Women affected by violence often feel intimidated, alone, and under constant psychological pressure by their perpetrators. In this self-help group, women will have the opportunity to open up and be taken seriously, rebuild their self-esteem, deal with their experiences, find their way back into their daily lives, and support and strengthen each other.

While the focus is on the new self-help group in Amberg, it's important to note that recent events in the world of sports have also highlighted the issue of violence against women. Germany's basketball captain Schröder has made racist taunts public, overshadowing the team's victory over Lithuania. Consequences have been announced by the German basketball federation regarding Schröder's racist remarks.

Elsewhere in sports, an Augsburg player was injured in a collision with a Bayern player, and coach Wagner has criticized Munich's behaviour. Meanwhile, several vehicles were involved in an accident on the A93 near Falkenberg, causing a closure in the direction of Hof. The highway is now open again.

Unfortunately, there have also been reports of a vehicle overturning on the B85 near Amberg on Saturday evening. The road has since been cleared. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.

In a happier note, Princess Marie Caroline of Liechtenstein got married in a splendid wedding ceremony in the castle. We hope that all women, regardless of their circumstances, can find the support and strength they need to overcome any challenges they face.
