Forgotten Blockbusters: A Reminder of 32 Cinematic Successes That Slipped Your Mind

=========================================================================================================

In the world of cinema, some films have managed to etch their names in the annals of history, becoming timeless classics that continue to captivate audiences for decades. However, there are many blockbuster movies that, despite raking in significant box office revenues, have failed to maintain their popularity and have become largely forgotten over time.

One such example is the disaster movie "San Andreas" (2015), directed by Brad Peyton and starring Dwayne Johnson. The film made an impressive $474 million, but it is not as memorable as other action movies starring Johnson from the decade. The movie "Rampage" (2017), also directed by Peyton and featuring giant monsters, made $428 million, but it is not as well-regarded as other action movies starring Johnson.

Another prequel that failed to live up to its predecessor is "Oz the Great and Powerful" (2017), directed by Sam Raimi. The film made $493.3 million, but it is not as well-regarded as the original "Wizard of Oz." Similarly, the remake of "Clash of the Titans" (2010), directed by Louis Leterrier, lacks the charm of the original and made $493.2 million.

The movie "Dinosaur" (2000), directed by Ralph Zondag and Eric Leighton, blends live-action backgrounds with dinosaurs, making $349.8 million, but it is not as well-regarded as other adventure movies from the same era. "Congo" (1995), an adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel of the same name, made $152 million, but it is often overlooked due to the success of "Jurassic Park" which was released two years earlier.

"Airport" (1970), directed by Mimi Leder, was a bona fide box office hit, grossing $128.4 million, and was nominated for nine Academy Awards. However, it is now largely forgotten due to the enduring popularity of the 1980 movie "Airplane!" which lampoons it.

Some movies that made a significant impact in their time but have since been overshadowed by other films include "Gone in 60 Seconds" (2000), "Runaway Bride" (1999), "Dangerous Minds" (1995), and "The Tourist" (2010). These films, despite making impressive sums at the box office, are not as well-remembered as their contemporaries or other movies starring the main actors.

In more recent years, movies like "Robin Hood" (2010), "Aquaman" (2018), and "Alice in Wonderland" (2010) have made substantial box office revenues, but they are not as memorable as some of the directors' or actors' earlier hits. "2012" (2009), directed by Roland Emmerich, made $791.2 million but has become increasingly irrelevant as the years pass.

It is interesting to note that some movies, despite their commercial success, have not managed to maintain their popularity over time. This could be due to a variety of factors, including the rise of other popular films, changes in cultural tastes, or simply the passage of time. Regardless of the reasons, these forgotten blockbusters serve as a reminder of the fleeting nature of popularity in the world of cinema.
