Forestry initiative to combat climate change by continuously planting trees over extended periods
In the picturesque city of Langen, the tree planting project has been extended to 2029. This decision, made by the city council, aims to further enrich the cityscape, contribute to climate stabilization efforts, and increase the city's greenery.
The project was initiated in 2018, following a storm that caused significant damage to the city's trees. In response, the city council decided to plant 500 new trees to restore the greenery and replace the destroyed ones. However, the goal of 500 new trees has not yet been fully achieved.
To ensure the continuity of this ecological initiative, the city council has allocated additional funds. From 2025, Langen will increase its budget for tree planting, setting aside 50,000 euros annually. This financial backing will support the project until 2029, although the exact time when the total number of trees to be planted will be reached is not specified in the available sources.
Mayor Jan Werner emphasized the importance of this measure, stating that it contributes to climate protection and offers native wildlife living and food space. He also highlighted the crucial role trees play in the urban climate, especially during times of rising temperatures.
Between 2020 and 2024, 340 trees have already been planted in the city of Langen. These trees were not only planted to replace the storm-damaged ones but also at other suitable locations. The continued tree planting action in Langen will contribute to the city's greenery, stabilize the climate, and aid in climate protection.
The city council's commitment to this project is evident, with the initiative to increase tree planting running for five years. The additional funds will be used for continued tree planting, ensuring that the city of Langen remains a green and thriving urban environment.
