Forest restoration initiative: Obertshausen expanding green cover with new tree plantings
In the picturesque town of Obertshausen, a special event took place recently, bringing together locals and nature enthusiasts for a shared goal: reforestation. The Citizens' Tree Planting Action, organised by the city, the Fachdienst Landschaft und Spielraum, and led by HessenForst and Corinna Pestka, saw around 60 helpers participate in the initiative.
The action, which took place along the extended Lindenstraße within the Waldpark, was expertly coordinated by Revierförster Till Baumhöfner. His team, including tree care specialists Tobias Waldschmitt and Sebastian Winter, ensured the planting process ran smoothly.
Mayor Friedrich emphasised the communal character of the action, stating that it fosters community spirit. The event was a testament to the power of collective action, as diverse individuals came together to make a positive impact on their environment.
The trees planted were climate-stable varieties, chosen for their resilience and benefits for insects. Two species were selected: the wild service tree, a native tree species known for its resilience, and the chestnut tree. These trees have origins on local orchards, according to Baumhöfner.
To protect the young plants, wooden stakes and wildlife protection grids were used. The action aimed to reforest the damaged area of the Waldpark Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois, contributing to the restoration of the local ecosystem.
This tree planting action is more than just a planting campaign; it's a symbol of unity, a testament to the power of community spirit, and a step towards a greener future for Obertshausen. The district forester, Benedikt Reiß, was also present to support the planting team. Together, they are making a difference, one tree at a time.
