Foreign students find Germany appealing

In Germany, universities are proving to be a welcoming haven for international students, with approximately 80% reporting no instances of discrimination within these academic settings. This is in stark contrast to outside university environments, where around half of international students experience occasional discrimination.

Technical universities such as the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the University of Passau, and Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts are leading the way in integrating international students. These institutions offer numerous English-taught programs, particularly in engineering and computer science, and boast a strong international reputation. They also provide active support structures to facilitate the integration of international students.

The welcoming atmosphere extends to campus environments, with an impressive 75% of international students feeling very welcome. Only 2% report feeling unwelcome, demonstrating a generally positive environment for international students.

Despite the warm welcome, many international students face challenges in their daily lives. Navigating bureaucracy, finding accommodation, and interacting with German students are common hurdles. However, approximately two-thirds of international students plan to stay in Germany after graduation, attracted by attractive career prospects and the possibility of starting their own business.

The university's reputation and the availability of English-language programs are key factors for international students choosing to study in Germany. Low or no tuition fees and relatively low living costs also make Germany an attractive destination for many.

Three-quarters of international respondents prefer Germany as a destination for studying abroad, and 75% are satisfied with their studies in Germany, with many recommending it to others. This high level of satisfaction is a testament to the efforts being made to support international students in Germany.

Germany's technological leadership in many fields, combined with its reputation for academic excellence, is a significant contributing factor to its popularity among international students. With its welcoming university environments and active support structures, it's no wonder that Germany continues to attract a significant number of international students.
