Football player Shaq Mason, former Super Bowl champion, is accused of assault and is currently facing charges following his arrest.
Shaq Mason, the two-time Super Bowl champion and former Patriots lineman, found himself in hot water after being arrested in Franklin, Tennessee, on Wednesday. The arrest occurred just one day before Mason's 32nd birthday (Thursday).
According to police reports, Mason is accused of breaking into the home of his child's mother at approximately 3 a.m. The alleged assault involved choking, punching, and leaving the victim's lip bloodied. As a result, Mason now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, harassment, and driving on a suspended license.
Mason was taken into custody at the traffic stop and is being held on a $150,000 bond. The NFL has not yet issued a statement regarding Mason's case, but disciplinary action appears inevitable due to his recent arrest and charges.
Mason's football career currently hangs by a thread due to the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy. A hearing for Mason, scheduled for October 2025, may provide more information about his future in the NFL.
Mason was drafted by New England in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft and signed a three-year, $36 million extension with the Houston Texans in 2023. Over seven seasons with the Patriots, Mason was a fan favorite for his consistency in protecting Tom Brady. He played a crucial role in the Patriots' Super Bowl LI and LIII victories.
However, in 2024, Mason started 15 games but allowed eight sacks, tied for the most among NFL guards, and gave up 34 pressures, drawing sharp criticism. In 2022, Mason was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and later to the Houston Texans in 2023. The Texans released Mason in March 2025.
Police claim Mason sent a chilling text message saying, "I'm gonna kill you." This incident has raised concerns about Mason's conduct both on and off the field.
As the hearing approaches, football fans and the NFL community will be watching closely to see what the future holds for Shaq Mason.
