FIFA Forms Players' Committee to Combat Racism in Football

In a significant move towards combating racism in football, FIFA has established a Players' Committee. The committee, which was announced at the FIFA Congress 2024 held in Thailand, aims to support the fight against racism in the sport.

The committee consists of 16 former top players and current stars, all of whom are world-renowned in the footballing world. Notable members include Mikaël Silvestre, who played for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, Juan Pablo Sorín, who represented Hamburger SV in the same league, George Weah from Liberia, and Didier Drogba from Ivory Coast. Juan Pablo Sorín is also a member of the committee.

The committee's purpose is clear: to develop, recommend, and review anti-racism initiatives. These initiatives will extend to FIFA youth tournaments, ensuring that the fight against racism is a continuous and ongoing effort at all levels of football.

The committee will be chaired by Dani Alves, a renowned footballer in his own right. Alves, known for his time at Barcelona and Juventus, among other clubs, will lead the committee in its mission to create a more inclusive and equitable footballing environment.

The players' committee will regularly visit FIFA youth tournaments to monitor the implementation of their anti-racism initiatives and to offer support and guidance where needed. This commitment to regular engagement will ensure that the fight against racism remains a priority at all levels of football.

The formation of this committee is a significant step forward in FIFA's efforts to combat racism in football. The committee's activities will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the sport, fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment for all.
