Football enthusiast from Wales discovers more than anticipated about Kazakhstan
Travel Vlogger John McAllister's Kazakhstan Adventure
John McAllister, a popular travel YouTuber, recently spent two weeks exploring Kazakhstan and shared his experiences with The Astana Times. During his journey, he travelled over 5,000 kilometers across the country, visiting cities such as Atyrau, Almaty, and the Shimbulak ski resort, among others.
McAllister was particularly impressed with Karagandy, finding it modern and different from other cities he visited. He visited the big new mosque on the road towards the airport and climbed the Baiterek tower for a panoramic view of the city. The Constitution Day party and music festival in Karagandy also left a lasting impression on him.
On a hot day, McAllister visited the mountainous Shimbulak ski resort, where he found a welcome relief from the heat that was prevalent in the rest of the country. He enjoyed his time there, as well as in Atyrau, where he found the city less busy than Astana.
McAllister was in Kazakhstan to support the Welsh football team in their World Cup qualifying match against the home team. The Astana Arena stadium was filled with a home crowd cheering for Kazakhstan, and McAllister thought the stadium was impressive and modern. Despite an unfortunate outcome for Kazakhstan, Wales won the match 1-0. Thousands of football fans from Wales had travelled to Kazakhstan for the match.
McAllister praised the digital and fast infrastructure in Kazakhstan, finding it to be one of the highlights of his trip. He also found the people of Kazakhstan to be fantastic, making his journey a memorable one. Overall, McAllister found Kazakhstan to be more modern than he expected and was left with a positive impression of the country.
