Following the Guglhupf-Aus: Marienplatz cult site revives once more

After the closure of Cafe Guglhupf at Marienplatz in late June, following 48 years of operation, a new venture is set to breathe life into the iconic location. On August 22, "Zum Herzkindl" will open its doors, courtesy of Stefanie Brunner, who previously sold coffee, cake, and sandwiches at a small stand in the KulturDachGarten.

The originator of the "Stazione" concept, Michael Faltenbacher, is responsible for the design and business of both "Stazione di Aperitivo" and the new venture at Marienplatz. Faltenbacher's son, Darius Faltenbacher, along with Martin Reifferscheid, already runs "Stazione di Bufala" at Gärtnerplatz.

Stefanie Brunner will serve coffee, cake, and sandwiches from morning to afternoon at "Zum Herzkindl". The interim use of the old Café Guglhupf will last for two and a half years, as specified in the lease agreement with DIBAG Hausverwaltung GmbH.

In October 2025, cheese fondue will be offered on the upper floor and terrace of the new business from September to the end of May, under the concept "Marienplatz Alm". This space will remain closed during the summer, with Faltenbacher and Brunner sharing the space all year round.

Meanwhile, at Gärtnerplatz, "Stazione di Aperitivo" is scheduled to open officially on September 6. Darius Faltenbacher and Bernhard Wieland are responsible for finding suitable people to staff the new business, with the main challenge being to find enough staff for the new ventures.

Konstantin Graf von Keyserlingk established the contact with the Eisenbarth family and took care of the concession for the new business in Kaufingerstraße. Fabio Vincenzo Di Salvo, who runs the clothing label "Enzo Escoba", will have a small stand in Kaufingerstraße to sell his printed T-shirts.

Interestingly, "Stazione di Aperitivo" and the "Gärtnerplatz Alm" share the location at Gärtnerplatz, with one operating in the summer and the other in the winter. However, the necessary renovation in Kaufingerstraße is not required, as the "Stazione di Aperitivo" does not need a complete overhaul to fit into its new home.

In the evening, Darius Faltenbacher and Martin Reifferscheid will take over from Brunner at 5 pm and offer Italian aperitifs and antipasti until midnight (1 am on weekends) at "Stazione di Aperitivo". The "Stazione di Aperitivo" was created as a result of wanting the location to be used during the day, preferably with coffee and cake, but not having enough time due to running "Stazione di Bufala" at Gärtnerplatz.

An extension of the lease agreement, possibly in a new building that is planned to be built there, is also a possibility. With the opening of "Zum Herzkindl" and "Stazione di Aperitivo", Marienplatz and Gärtnerplatz are set to become even more vibrant and bustling, offering a variety of culinary delights to locals and tourists alike.
