Andrea Sawatzki, a versatile talent known for her acting prowess, has also made a name for herself as the author behind the beloved TV series "Family Bundschuh." Based on her novel of the same name, the show has become a hit on ZDF, with the tenth part scheduled to return on September 1, 2025[2][4].

The series, a family comedy focusing on the lives of the Bundschuh family, has resonated with audiences, demonstrating unexpected longevity and audience engagement[2][4][5]. Sawatzki plays the main character Gundula, a role that is loosely based on her own life and represents qualities she does not always embody[4]. Her co-star, Axel Milberg, portrays Gerald Bundschuh.

The success of "Family Bundschuh" can be attributed to a sense of recognition among many families, as the programme touches upon the comedic and sometimes complicated aspects of family life[2]. While the production process behind the adaptation may not have been unexpected, the series' continued popularity and success far exceed typical expectations for a film or TV project based on a novel by an actress primarily known for other work[2][4][5].

Sawatzki is involved in the development of the story for the TV series, holding the character rights[4]. The screenplays are written by other authors, but her unique perspective and personal connection to the characters ensure a faithful adaptation of her novel.

When not on set, Sawatzki spends most of her free time with animals and in nature, believing we can learn a lot from nature and animals[6]. Her passion for animals was evident in her work with Sabine Peschke, driving to killing stations in Romania to save dogs and making a documentary for the WDR, "Romania's Forgotten Dogs."

As for the tenth part of "Family Bundschuh," Sawatzki has not revealed any details, as it has not been approved by ZDF[4]. However, she is open to directing and has not ruled out the possibility of Axel Milberg returning for future parts of the series, should he choose to participate[3].

Sawatzki's private life and professional life are closely intertwined, with her sons choosing to pursue careers outside the public eye in fields they've always wanted[1]. Despite her fame, Sawatzki and her husband Christian Berkel find a good balance between their private life and professional challenges, with their family life working well[5].
