Race for Conservative Party Leadership Narrows Down to Three Candidates

The Conservative Party is in the midst of a significant leadership contest, with the race narrowing down to a three-way clash between Rishi Sunak, Penny Mordaunt, and Liz Truss. The party is seeking to rebuild its popular support after the fall of Boris Johnson, who stepped down due to a series of scandals.

In the first round of voting to become the next Conservative Party leader and potential UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, the former chancellor of the UK, emerged as the frontrunner, receiving 88 votes. Nadhim Zahawi and Jeremy Hunt were eliminated from the race.

Following Sunak, Penny Mordaunt secured 67 votes, and Liz Truss received 50 votes. Besides these three, Kemi Badenoch is also a candidate in the election for the leadership of the Conservative Party.

The next round of voting by Conservative Party MPs is scheduled for Thursday. After this round, the list of prospects for the Conservative Party leadership will be further limited.

Interestingly, the Conservative Party membership base seems to be gaining momentum behind Penny Mordaunt. Suella Braverman, an Indian-origin member of Parliament, is also in the race for the Conservative Party leadership.

The final decision for the Conservative Party leadership will be made by the party's membership base. The new Conservative Party leader is expected to be announced on September 5. The chosen candidate will have the challenging task of rebuilding the party's popular support and leading the country through uncertain times.
