In an ambitious move towards a greener future, FlixBus has extended its fleet of LNG vehicles to Central Europe. The transportation giant has already deployed LNG-powered buses in Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, and recently introduced two such coaches on the Prague-Kraków route. This marks the first use of LNG technology on long-distance bus services in Czechia and Poland.

The decision to adopt LNG in Central Europe is rooted in FlixBus's belief in the technology's suitability for long-distance routes. The use of LNG and bio-LNG in long-distance bus services could potentially contribute to a more sustainable transportation sector. Infrastructure and range remain limiting factors for electric and hydrogen alternatives on long-distance routes.

The new vehicles, Scania Irizar models designed for long-haul routes, offer emissions reductions of approximately 10-15% compared to conventional diesel-powered coaches. Moreover, these buses can run on bio-LNG, which could enable greater emissions savings where the fuel is available. This could potentially reduce CO2 output by up to 90%, making a significant impact on the environment.

FlixBus's introduction of these LNG-powered coaches is part of its broader efforts to trial alternative fuel technologies across its network. The company is working towards its target of net-zero emissions in Europe by 2040.

As of now, FlixBus operates over 100 vehicles using alternative drivetrains across its European and international networks. The Polish company named "PKS Polonus" and the Czech company "RegioJet" are the first to operate LNG-powered long-distance buses in their respective countries.

The introduction of these LNG-powered coaches is a step towards FlixBus's goal of reducing its carbon footprint. By embracing cleaner technologies, FlixBus is not only contributing to a more sustainable transportation sector but also setting an example for other companies to follow.
