Flights to Harry Reid Airport delayed/cancelled, blamed on low clouds

As of Monday afternoon, some 78 flights were canceled and 590 flights were delayed at Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport due to adverse weather conditions.

The weather at the airport was so bad that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced it was closing the airport at 10 a.m. PT, Las Vegas TV station KTNV reported. Estimated to end at 12:00 PM PT.

As of 3pm, departure delays at the airport lasted an average of one hour and three minutes, according to national flight tracking service FlightAware.

According to FlightAware, flights arriving at the airport are delayed by an average of 1 hour and 9 minutes. Some flight delays at Harry Reid Airport lasted for several hours.

Ground delays are expected to last until 11 p.m. PT Monday, KTNV reports.

In a message to passengers, the airport explained that delays and cancellations were caused by low clouds. Airport officials also advise passengers and people driving to and from the airport to "monitor flight status with their airlines."

According to FlightAware, flight delays and cancellations were seen in many parts of the United States on Monday, not just in Nevada. As of Monday afternoon, delays within, to and from the United States totaled 4,468. The total number of canceled flights within, to and from the United States is 895.

The hardest-hit cities with flight delays or cancellations include Chicago, St. Louis and Seattle.
