Five-Day "Sun Up Celebration" Unveiled in Arunachal, According to Andhra CM Pema Khandu, to Strengthen Tourism Sector
In a significant announcement, Pema Khandu, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, declared the launch of the 'Sun Rise Festival' in the state. The event, aimed at creating new opportunities for adventurers and nature lovers, will be held from December 29 to January 2, 2023, in the picturesque Dong Village of the Anjaw district.
The announcement was made during Pema Khandu's visit to Walong in Anjachal Pradesh on Saturday. He extended a warm invitation to people to witness the first dawn of the New Year at the 'Sun Rise Festival'.
The 'Sun Rise Festival' is part of the government's efforts to boost tourism in Arunachal Pradesh. The state has seen a surge in tourism in recent years, with enhanced air connectivity playing a crucial role. According to data from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, aircraft movements have nearly doubled in the North East Region since 2014, and domestic passenger traffic has increased more than threefold during the same period.
The growth in air connectivity is vital for improving accessibility to remote and border areas in the North East Region, as highlighted by Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, a North East Region (NER) Minister. He also emphasized the importance of accelerating skilling initiatives for fast-tracking employment generation among the youths of the NER.
The benefits of enhanced air connectivity extend beyond tourism. It facilitates cargo and logistics, drives industrial and socio-economic growth, and caters to both the needs of improving connectivity and employment generation in the North East Region, according to Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu.
The North East Aviation Summit and the North East Region Ministers' Conference on Civil Aviation 2025 were held in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, on Thursday. These events, organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, aimed to discuss strategies for further improving air connectivity in the region.
Pema Khandu, during the inaugural, emphasized the importance of transportation connectivity for the development of the North East Region. He highlighted that the number of operational airports in the NER has grown from nine in 2014 to 16 at present.
An industry-driven aviation ecosystem, he added, would be able to cater to both the needs of improving connectivity and employment generation in the North East Region. He emphasized the need for deepening Centre-State-Industry collaboration for the accelerated growth of the Civil Aviation sector in the North East Region.
The 'Sun Rise Festival' promises to be a unique and exciting event that will showcase the natural beauty and cultural richness of Arunachal Pradesh. Adventurers and nature lovers from across the country are invited to witness this spectacular event and experience the first dawn of the New Year in the heart of the North East Region.
