Munich-Salzburg motorway - Firefighting unit averts blast at gasoline outlet.

Around 8am Saturday, a BMW X3 exploded into a fireball at an Aral gas station in Weyarn (Bavaria).

The 74-year-old driver, a German now living in the US, heard a loud bang on the car while driving on the A8 Munich-Salzburg highway and stopped at the gas station to inspect the scene. That's when he saw the back of his car ablaze.

The flames were most likely sparked by a mechanical issue within the car. Danger! High risk of explosion! Thankfully, the Weyarn fire department, just a circle away, rushed to the scene and successfully contained the fire, stopping it from engulfing the entire gas station, before eventually putting out the burning BMW with large amounts of foam.

The gas station had to be promptly evacuated, and the road was temporarily closed. The station was turned off for the time being. Two adjacent columns remain shut, too.

The car was a complete loss, estimated at a damage cost of approximately 30,000 euros. The roof of the gas station sustained minor damage. A preliminary assessment of the overall damage puts it at roughly 10,000 euros, reported by the Holzkirchen (Bavaria) police station.

Eighty-five firefighters from Weyarn, Holzolling, Westerham, Holzkirchen, Sonderdilching, Mitterdarching, Valley, and Reichersdorf responded to the fire rescue.

Fortunately, the firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the tank system
