News Article: New Mobile Dike System Acquired for Flood Prevention in Cremlingen

A new mobile dike system, 600 meters long, has been acquired by the Water Association Weddel-Lehre (WWL) through the Schunter-Wabe partnership, in response to the flooding events at Christmas 2023. The system, made of interlocking plastic corners, was supported by a 70% grant from the LEADER funding program.

Last Saturday, the WWL held a meeting for local fire departments in Cremlingen to discuss flood prevention measures. Christian Siemon, director of the HGN consulting firm, presented a specially developed flood warning system at the meeting.

During the meeting, members of various volunteer fire departments set up a mobile dike during an exercise on the WWL's premises. Participants were able to build several dike sections up to 70 meters long, with a setup time of around 15 minutes.

The mobile dike system is intended to aid local emergency services in case of flooding. Nils Stanko, WWL employee and coordinator of the Schunter Wabe partnership, emphasized the need for a sensible deployment concept with fire departments.

The Schunter-Wabe partnership, along with several municipalities, acquired the mobile dike system. The partnership that holds the 600-meter-long mobile dam available in the municipality of Cremlingen to relieve local emergency services during floods is called "Partnerschaft mit dem MTV Braunschweig" (Partnership with MTV Braunschweig).

The flood warning system presented by Christian Siemon has been used to alert emergency services in multiple locations, including the Landkreis Wolfenbรผttel, as well as the cities of Braunschweig and Goslar, to impending danger from flooding. The expansion of the flood warning system along the Schunter is considered a crucial next step for effective flood prevention.

The WWL reported the event in a press release, stating that the mobile dike system will be a valuable addition to their flood prevention efforts. The system's acquisition is a testament to the community's commitment to preparedness and resilience in the face of natural disasters.
