Firefighters of Ennepe-Ruhr district have been actively working for seven hours, with a team of 132 individuals.
In the early hours of August 30, 2025, the Herdecke Fire Department was called to a fire incident at Ewald Dörken AG on Wetterstraße. The incident, which started at 20:07, required a massive deployment of forces to bring it under control.
The fire department Herdecke announced the successful extinguishing of the fire at 00:24. Simultaneously, a fire alarm was reported at Millöckerweg, prompting the deployment of out-of-town forces from the Fire Department Wetter (Ruhr). As the logistical effort and the number of deployed forces continued to increase, the Johanniter Accident Assistance was called to the scene with the supply and catering component.
The nine fire departments involved in the firefighting operation in Herdecke were: Herdecke, Hagen, Dortmund, Witten, Wetter (Ruhr), Schwelm, Sprockhövel, Gevelsberg, and Ennepetal. The public was never in any danger during the incident.
The fire at Wetterstraße spread through a ventilation system and released smoke into the open air via a chimney, prompting a public warning via the NINA warning app. Initially, the affected company provided drinks and additional snacks for the deployed forces. Catering was provided for the high number of deployed forces due to the measures that had been ongoing for five hours.
The incident commander, fire chief Michael Tillmanns, thanked all deployed forces for the truly very demanding fire deployment. He was joined by district fire chief Martin Weber, who expressed his pleasure at seeing the firefighting family and the entire blue light family of the Ennepe-Ruhr district and neighboring towns cooperate closely and work well together.
A representative of the company thanked the fire department, stating, "It's good to know that we have such a reliable fire department. The concepts work, and we thank the numerous deployed forces." After cleanup at the scene, it was handed over to the police for cause investigation. While the fire department Herdecke cleaned the deployment vehicles and equipment and restored operational readiness, the fire department Hattingen conducted a fire watch at the scene.
At Millöckerweg, the incident was quickly resolved upon finding burnt food and removing it from the stove. At 01:19, an all-clear message was issued via the NINA app for the odor nuisance in Herdecke. At 02:30, the incident commander reported "Fire out". At 04:40, the fire watch was handed over to the company.
The fire department Herdecke cannot provide information on either the cause or the amount of damage and refers to the police or the company. However, no injuries were reported during the firefighting efforts, but the fire reignited at around 22:10.
