In the heart of August 2025, the German Forest Fire Deployment Team found itself in the deployment area around the picturesque village of La Baña, in Puebla de Sanabria, Spain. The team had arrived the day before, on Saturday, August 24.

The operation was part of larger forest fire deployment measures, as a kilometer-long flame front threatened to engulf the village. The fire had initially formed from several individual fires, and its spread towards La Baña was a cause for concern.

The deployment team, along with other Spanish units, took up the challenge. They defended La Baña against the flames at three fire fronts, with the German team positioned along a 1.5-kilometer-wide safety strip created by bulldozers. German and Spanish tank fire engines were active in both shifts, thanks to deployment orders upon arrival.

The immediate medical emergency team of the German Forest Fire Deployment Team was on standby, providing initial care when a medical emergency involving a pedestrian occurred on the outskirts of the deployment area. After initial treatment, the pedestrian was handed over to Spanish emergency services for further care.

The combined efforts of the deployment team and support from the air prevented the fire from jumping a major road. Six fire-fighting aircraft and ten fire-fighting helicopters provided crucial aerial support in the operation.

As the operation progressed, the fire was brought under control, but a mop-up operation was necessary to extinguish hotspots and prevent reignition. The German Forest Fire Deployment Team, along with their Spanish counterparts, worked tirelessly to ensure the fire was fully contained.

With the operation successfully concluded, the German Forest Fire Deployment Team is now preparing for its return journey to Germany. The operation, part of the German Forest Fire Deployment, will end by the beginning of the following week.

The personal leaders of the German wildfire deployment team are not publicly disclosed, but their expertise and dedication were evident in the successful operation. The team is also equipped with a unit for self-protection during deployment measures, ensuring their safety as they work to protect others.

This deployment marks another successful collaboration between German and Spanish emergency services, demonstrating their commitment to keeping communities safe from the threat of forest fires.
