The German Forest Fire Deployment Team, under the leadership of an unnamed leader from the Bonn Fire Department, descended upon the region of Castilla-León, Spain, on August 24, 2025. The deployment was part of a coordinated effort to combat a series of wildfires threatening the village of La Baña.

The team set up their base of operations in a rural school in Puebla de Sanabria and engaged at three fire fronts to defend the village against the encroaching flames. On Sunday, several individual fires combined into a kilometer-long flame front, posing a significant threat to the community.

The flames, which were sometimes more than 50 meters high, were reduced thanks to the tireless efforts of the German tank fire trucks, which were active in both shifts on Sunday. A safety strip was created by bulldozers, and the German and Spanish tank fire trucks positioned themselves along this strip to prevent the fire from advancing.

Support came from the air, with up to six fire-fighting aircraft and ten fire-fighting helicopters being used simultaneously. This aerial support played a crucial role in containing the wildfire and preventing it from spreading further.

In addition to their efforts to combat the flames, the deployment team also provided medical assistance. An immediate medical emergency team, part of the German Forest Fire Deployment Unit, provided initial care to a passerby who collapsed on the outskirts of the deployment area. Spanish rescue services then took over further medical care for the individual.

As the fires were contained, a mop-up operation was necessary to extinguish smoldering spots and prevent further flare-ups. The operation was successful, and the German Forest Fire Deployment Team was able to complete its mission near the beginning of the following week.
