Firefighter in Albuquerque rescues pigeon at Tingley Beach
In the heart of Albuquerque, a remarkable event unfolded last Sunday at Tingley Beach, near Central. A pigeon found itself in a precarious situation when its leg got caught on a metal structure. But fear not, for the city's brave firefighters were on the scene to save the day.
Battalion Chief Peter Jarmosevich, a senior firefighter and emergency medical services leader, took the lead in this unusual rescue operation. Climbing a ladder, he reached the pigeon, which was hanging about 30 feet above the ground. The bird, now named "Edward" by Chief Jarmosevich's crew, was carefully extracted from its predicament.
This rescue was a rare sight, according to Albuquerque Fire Rescue, as it's not every day that they are called upon to save a feathered friend. Chief Jarmosevich, with his experience and familiarity with handling birds, proved to be the perfect man for the job.
Once Edward was safely rescued, he was placed in a small kennel for rest and recovery. The ABQ BioPark Zoo staff will evaluate the pigeon to ensure its health before releasing it back into the wild.
