Firebreak in Weitmar: Major Fire Department Response to Kitchen Inflammation
In the heart of Bochum, a kitchen fire broke out on Friday afternoon, causing a brief but significant disruption in the Weitmar district.
The fire, reported at around 12:48 PM, was quickly responded to by the Bochum Fire Department, the rescue service, and the volunteer fire unit Eppendorf-Höntrop. The operation, which lasted approximately 1 hour, was successful in extinguishing the fire and preventing any major incidents.
The fire, located in a residential building on Blumenfeldstraße, led to the evacuation of 19 residents, including a newborn. These individuals were examined by the Bochum rescue service due to possible exposure to toxic smoke during the evacuation. A Bogestra bus was utilised for these examinations.
Fortunately, none of the injuries required further emergency medical treatment in a hospital. After a thorough examination, all individuals were allowed to remain on site. The first responders from the city centre station took care of the residents of the affected apartment.
Blumenfeldstraße was fully closed during the operation to ensure the safety of the public and the firefighters. The nearby employee of the professional fire brigade initiated the evacuation of the residential building.
