Significant Forest Fire Near Belarus-Ukraine Border

A significant forest fire has erupted near the Belarus-Ukraine border, affecting forests under the jurisdiction of the Lelchitsky Forestry. The fire, located 200 meters from the Belarusian border, is spreading over forests that cover over 121,000 hectares.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but the Ministry of Forestry is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining control. State forest guards are present at the site of the fire, working diligently to contain and extinguish it.

In response to the complex fire hazard situation, visiting forests has been prohibited in many regions of Belarus, especially in the south. However, forest visits are allowed in 10 specific districts: Gorodok, Senno, Mัdelshchina, Orsha, Dubrovno, Shklov, Berezino, Cherven, Stolbtsy, and Kamianets.

Specialists involved in extinguishing the forest fires in southern Belarus include Belarusian emergency services and potentially Russian assistance. The involvement of Ukrainian authorities or joint firefighting efforts is not clearly reported, and no confirmed information about conflicts between Belarusian and Ukrainian authorities regarding fire control is available.

On the Belarusian side, mineralized strips have been created to prevent the fire from spreading. The extent of the damage caused by the fire is not yet clear, but efforts are being made to minimise its impact.

One of Belarus' regions is under threat due to the fire, but the specific region has not been disclosed. It is important to note that no specific cause for the fire has been reported.

As the situation develops, updates will be provided to keep the public informed. We urge everyone to stay safe and follow any instructions from local authorities regarding forest visits and safety measures.
