On September 5, 2025, a fire broke out at the transformer station located within the community shelter on Westerstr. in Delmenhorst. The incident, initially reported by news aktuell, was promptly attended by firefighters and police to prevent the fire from spreading.

According to the Police Inspectorate Delmenhorst/Oldenburg-Land/Wesermarsch, the fire caused approximately 5,000 euros worth of property damage. Unfortunately, the fire also resulted in a power outage that affected neighboring buildings in Delmenhorst's city center.

During the evacuation, 91 people who were at the shelter at the time were safely evacuated. The city of Delmenhorst swiftly provided alternative accommodations for those affected by the power outage.

Preliminary investigations suggest a technical defect in the transformer station as the cause of the fire.
