Fire department in NRW region receives firefighting gear from VdF-NRW

The Association of Fire Departments in NRW e.V. has developed new fire safety education materials, particularly tailored for seniors. These materials aim to address the challenges faced by elderly individuals who may react more slowly, have poorer vision and hearing, and may not perceive everyday dangers, according to Maria Koch, the fire safety education and awareness officer at VdF NRW.

At a recent event in Wuppertal, the Association handed over fifteen fire safety kits. These kits are sturdy trolleys filled with essential information and display materials. Each fire safety kit contains signs with fire safety and rescue symbols, smoke and CO2 detectors, fire extinguisher spray, and an emergency kit designed for seniors to store vital information for easy access by emergency services.

The emergency kit is of utmost importance, especially for elderly people with dementia, mental illness, and those taking multiple medications with unknown side effects. One of the key features is a stove guard, which warns of fire danger on the stove, providing additional safety for elderly individuals.

Provinzial, with a long tradition of supporting fire safety education, actively supports fire departments by providing fire safety kits. Christoph Dohr, head of the main department for damage prevention and risk assessment at Provinzial, emphasizes the importance of partnering with fire departments to raise awareness of potential risks in daily life.
