Fire Department Drill at "Westrich" Country Inn by Volunteer Fire Brigade Bedburg-Hau
The Bedburg-Hau Volunteer Fire Department recently held a training exercise at Landgasthof "Westrich" in Till-Moyland. This collaborative event aimed to simulate a severe traffic accident involving a tractor and a car, with two people trapped inside.
During the exercise, firefighters explained their actions, procedures, and the tools used to the staff of the inn. This included demonstrating their standardized procedures for technical rescues, using hydraulic equipment like shears and spreaders. The staff gained valuable insight into the procedures of a technical rescue operation and saw the fire department's preparedness, even in simulated stressful situations.
Female employees of the Landgasthof were actively involved in the exercise, performing initial first aid measures for the victims. This hands-on experience provided them with knowledge that could prove invaluable in real-life situations.
Unit leader Daniel Arntz values this cooperation, stating it helps in early learning of operational specifics and joint development of practical safety concepts. The partnership between the Till-Moyland fire department and Landgasthof "Westrich" has been ongoing for years.
After the exercise, the fire department was invited to a joint dinner by the management of Landgasthof "Westrich" as a token of gratitude for their voluntary work and the informative evening.
Regular training sessions for Landgasthof staff have covered topics like fire extinguisher use, fire safety, and grease fire dangers. Many staff members felt better prepared after the event, expressing relief that they had never been in such an extreme situation.
The Bedburg-Hau Volunteer Fire Department is open to new members, whether in youth work or as adults in active service. Interested individuals can find more information about membership on the department's website at www.feuerwehr-bedburg-hau.nrw.
