Fire Containment in Hannover-Mittelfeld Hotel: Activation of sprinkler system halted the expansion of a blaze on the fifth floor of a hotel in Hannover.
At approximately 10:00 PM on Friday, an automatic fire alarm was triggered in a hotel on Expo Plaza in Hannover. The Fire Department Hannover responded to the alarm, along with additional resources dispatched by the regional control center.
Upon arrival, the fire department found that the hotel's automatic sprinkler system had already contained the fire, preventing its spread to other areas. Hotel guests were warned and asked to leave the hotel due to the alarm, leading to an evacuation.
One hotel guest confirmed the activation, and it was found that smoke detectors in the sauna area on the 5th floor had been activated. The fire department performed follow-up operations and ventilation measures with two teams in breathing apparatuses.
Water damage resulting from the activation of the sprinkler system required some hotel guests to be accommodated in nearby hotels, with the fire department supporting these measures. It is unclear if the incident had any significant impact on the hotel's operations beyond the evacuation and temporary accommodation of some guests.
A total of 50 fire and rescue service and emergency medical service personnel were involved in the operation until around 2:00 AM. One guest was cared for by the emergency medical services but did not need to be transported to a hospital. However, an infant who required special baby food had to be transported due to unavailability during the operation.
The cause of the fire in the hotel on Expo Plaza in Hannover remains unknown. The police are conducting the investigations into the cause of the fire, and the fire department is not releasing any information on the specifics of the follow-up operations and ventilation measures performed.
The police investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details may be released at a later time. It is unknown if the police investigation will lead to any charges or findings related to the incident. The police have initiated investigations, and the fire department has not disclosed if the incident on Friday night is related to the smoke detector activation in the sauna area on the 5th floor.
