Fintech company Revolut invests half a billion dollars in becoming a major player within the Formula 1 racing scene.

Fintech company Revolut plans to invest $500 million in the world of Formula 1 motorsport.

In the world of Formula 1, the racing season is currently on its mid-season break, but off the track, there's a significant shift happening. Fintech companies are making a notable entry into the sport, injecting millions into sponsorship deals.

Three major players, Revolut, Airwallex, and OKX, are leading this trend. They have collectively spent over $500m on F1 sponsorship deals for the 2025 season, marking a substantial investment in sports marketing.

McLaren has partnered with OKX and Airwallex, with the companies' logos appearing on race cars and drivers' uniforms. The fintech firm Revolut has also joined the fray, announcing a title partnership with Audi's F1 team last month. Another notable fintech sponsor is Mastercard, which will be the naming partner of the McLaren Formula 1 team from 2026 onward.

This move by fintech companies is a notable shift in advertising strategies. Sponsorship spending across Formula 1 is projected to reach $3bn in 2025, with crypto brands contributing $174m annually. Crypto.com stands out as the biggest spender with over $210m in live deals across the season, while Coinbase, OKX, and Gate.io have all topped $50m in sponsorship deals.

The increased spending on F1 sponsorship deals indicates a growing interest of fintech firms in sports marketing. For instance, UK fintech company Revolut's deal with Audi's F1 team includes digital banking and e-commerce solutions for Audi's retailing merchandise arm.

Meanwhile, Airwallex is planning to aggressively expand its UK workforce and double its office footprint. Their new office in Fitzrovia will feature a 3D-printed sculpture of McLaren driver Lando Norris.

As the race for the world championship heats up, Team drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are fighting to win their first titles. The McLaren team is comfortably ahead in the team standings, providing an exciting prospect for fintech companies like Airwallex and OKX, who have their logos prominently displayed on the McLaren cars.

The next grand prix will take place in the Netherlands at the end of the month, where we'll see these fintech partnerships in action. As Formula 1 continues to attract big-name sponsors, it's clear that the sport is not just about speed and skill, but also about smart business decisions and innovative partnerships.
