GCash, the leading fintech player in the Philippines, has taken a significant step forward in the digital payments landscape with the launch of GCash Tap to Pay. This innovative payment solution, developed in collaboration with Alipay+ and Mastercard, is set to redefine the future of global payments.

GCash Tap to Pay utilises Near Field Communications (NFC) technology, enabling users to pay at more than 150 million Mastercard acceptance locations worldwide. This expansion complements the current QR code payment in over 50 destinations globally, thereby increasing the global acceptance of GCash.

With over 6 million partner merchants and social sellers, GCash has been a pioneer in driving digital payments in the Philippines. The company's mobile wallet operations are handled by G-Xchange, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mynt, a $5 billion unicorn in the country.

Ren-Ren Reyes, President and CEO of G-Xchange, Inc., emphasised the goal of GCash: to drive financial innovation and create an inclusive, cashless ecosystem. The new GCash Tap to Pay is a testament to this commitment, offering users a simple and seamless payment experience with a single tap of their NFC-enabled Android phone on any Mastercard-accepting POS terminal.

The innovation also aligns with GCash's support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDGs 5, 8, 10, and 13, which focus on gender equality, decent work and economic growth, reduced inequalities, and climate action, respectively.

Douglas Feagin, President of Ant International, praised GCash for being one of the first partners to enable Alipay+ NFC global payment capability. He also noted that greater interoperability between e-wallet and card systems is a trend of the future.

In addition to payments, the GCash App offers a wide range of financial services, including purchases, bill payments, money transfers, and access to savings, credit, loans, insurance, and investments. Users can also send and receive money with GCash, including to other bank accounts.

GCash Tap to Pay offers robust security features, including authentication protocols and data encryption, ensuring a safe and secure payment experience for all users. This innovation marks a significant milestone in GCash's mission to make digital payments more accessible and convenient for everyone in the Philippines and beyond.
