Finland's iGaming market opens in 2027 with a unique regulatory twist
Finland is preparing to launch its regulated iGaming market on July 1, 2027. Before then, a key webinar will explain the country's distinct approach to online gambling. Industry experts and legal professionals will lead the discussion on March 5, 2027.
The Finnish gambling regulator will begin accepting online license applications from March 1, 2027. Secondary legislation and technical requirements for applicants are expected to be published shortly before this date.
The upcoming webinar, titled How Finland is different, will focus on the market's unique regulatory framework. Speakers will include Morten Ronde and Pekka Ilmivalta from Nordic Legal, alongside a technical specialist from Ubetec. Topics will cover recent rule updates, frequently asked questions about the application process, and the technical standards operators must meet.
Finland's iGaming regulations will not mirror those in neighbouring Nordic markets like Sweden or Denmark. However, no public statements from existing operators in those countries have addressed these differences so far.
The March 5 webinar aims to clarify Finland's approach before the market opens in July 2027. License applications will be processed from March 1, with detailed guidelines released in advance. The event provides a chance for operators to understand the country's specific requirements before entering the market.
