Final farewell ceremony for seasoned journalist Bibhuranjan takes place in Dhaka
Bibhuranjan Sarkar, the senior assistant editor of the daily Ajker Patrika, was found deceased on Friday, 22 August, in the Meghna River in Gazaria, Munshiganj. His body was recovered in the afternoon.
The journalist, who was 71 years old, had left his home in Dhaka on Thursday morning. He was reported missing soon after he left his residence.
The last rites of Bibhuranjan Sarkar were held in the capital city on Saturday, 23 August. The event took place at the Boro Deshwari Kali Temple and crematorium in Sabujbagh.
Family members, colleagues, and well-wishers attended the ceremony, which started at 6:15pm and ended around 8:30pm. An autopsy was performed on his body on Saturday, but the location of the procedure was not specified in the text. After the autopsy, Bibhuranjan Sarkar's body was handed over to his family.
