Final Event Announcement: Farewell to the Artistic Journey - Spielhalle KUNST on 23rd August, 2025: 19 Months of Artistic Innovation and Expression
Celebrations for Caspar David Friedrich's 250th Birthday Conclude with a Farewell to the Kunst Spielhalle
After 19 months of captivating exhibitions and events, the Kunst Spielhalle at Muhlestraße 27/28 is closing its doors. The Kunsthalle, established in 2024, served as an important place for contemporary art and was a significant part of the celebrations marking the 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich in Greifswald.
Over the course of 600 days, the Kunst Spielhalle presented ten exhibitions featuring artists from Greifswald, the region, nationwide, and internationally. These exhibitions included works by students, a selection from the 2025 state art show, historical drawings, and diverse contemporary positions. The current exhibition, titled "Between Hunch and Certainty: Lena Schmidt and Pauline Stopp", was part of the celebrations.
The festivities, which began to honour the renowned German Romantic painter Caspar-David-Friedrich, also saw Greifswald officially recognised as a Caspar-David-Friedrich city. In total, 752 events were held as part of the celebrations.
As the celebrations draw to a close, a farewell party will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The event will feature music, performances, soundscapes, and sound collages. The Jubilee Office and the Kunst Spielhalle would like to extend a big thank you to all the artists, curators, and visitors who contributed to the Kunst Spielhalle's success.
The diverse cultural program attracted over half a million visitors, demonstrating the city's commitment to promoting and celebrating art. The Kunsthalle's closing marks the end of this chapter, but it also signifies a new beginning for contemporary art in Greifswald.
In closing, the Jubilee Office expresses gratitude to all organisers and visitors who made the cultural program possible. The Kunst Spielhalle will be missed, but its legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those who experienced its exhibitions and events.
