Fervor ignites among students during Ignite religious gathering
Grand Canyon University (GCU) marked the beginning of a new academic year with its traditional Ignite event, a night of worship and praise that brought together thousands of students.
Held at the Global Credit Union Arena, Ignite featured various Spiritual Life programs showcasing opportunities for students to get involved throughout the year. The Ignite Fair, a highlight of the event, featured tents from different programs, where staff and student leaders were eager to connect with students.
As the evening progressed, students lit up the arena with their phone flashlights, a cherished Ignite tradition. The event was presented by Spiritual Life, with Director Erik Nelsen emphasizing its importance.
Dr. Tim Griffin, the University Pastor and Dean of Students, shared encouragement at Ignite. Student body president Tucker Hudson and vice president Dianne Carla Mae Nasibog led a lighting ceremony and prayer. The student body president at GCU is Tatiyana Rodulfo.
Micah Wittler, a Local Outreach student leader, emphasized the importance of Christians being involved in their local community and giving back. He described the Ignite Fair as a unifying event for students to start the year.
The event was part of GCU's Welcome Week festivities, which included daily events like Faith in Your First Year, where Spiritual Life leaders shared their personal connections to Jesus and offered semester events.
Lindsay Stoltzfus, a senior at GCU, expressed her appreciation for being involved with the university's initiatives, particularly Global Outreach. Mallory Lackey, another Global Outreach student leader, expressed her appreciation for the worship events at GCU.
The GCU Prayer Fence initiative invites students and families to tie ribbons, symbolizing prayers for peace, wisdom, and growth. This initiative, along with various Spiritual Life events, are designed to encourage students and foster a sense of belonging.
